There is magic in the details. This hands-on workshop will challenge and inspire you to think bigger as you learn techniques for creating bold, large-scale ceramic sculptures.
In this intensive workshop, you'll build sculptures using modified coil techniques. Sculptures can be created as a single piece or in sections, allowing for a wide range of projects, including animals, figures, urns, planters, and abstract forms. Please come prepared with sketches or ideas for the sculpture you'd like to create, and bring printed copies of your reference images or sketches to use during the workshop.
Each participant will receive a three-page handout covering the techniques and topics discussed during the workshop.
Topics include:
Clay selection and tools
Strong attachments and construction techniques
Managing uneven wall thickness
Surface decoration techniques
Glazing considerations
Firing schedules
Repairing cracks and breakage
Caring for your finished sculpture
Schedule is the following:
Friday 5:00-7:00pm
Saturday 10:00-4:00pm
Sunday 10:00-2:00pm
One bag of sculpture clay is included with your registration. Additional clay is available for $30 per bag.
Firing fees are not included and are based on the size of your finished piece. Glazing will not be part of this workshop; however, glazing of finished sculptures can be arranged after the workshop, depending on the size of the piece.
