Summer Ceramics Internship: A Studio Residency Experience (3 Months)
This summer, Rogue Valley Pottery Studio invites a small group of High School Juniors and Seniors who are emerging ceramic artists into an immersive, process-driven internship designed to nurture voice, refine technique, and bring a body of work to life.
Over the course of three months, interns will become part of the rhythm of the studio—learning not just through making, but through observation, conversation, and shared labor. Each participant will be paired with an onsite mentor, creating space for thoughtful dialogue, critique, and guidance as ideas take shape in clay.
We are seeking artists who arrive with intention. Perspective residents should come prepared with a concept or direction for a cohesive body of work they wish to explore and develop throughout the summer. This is a space for curiosity, discipline, and experimentation—where form, function, and personal narrative can evolve together.
Program Commitments:
Contribute 3 hours per week to studio technical duties, supporting the shared creative environment
Engage in 2 hours per week of dedicated mentorship, including critique, discussion, and skill development
8 hour initial monitor membership accomplished in the first two weeks to get studio door code
Maintain a consistent, self-directed studio practice
Culminating Experience:
The internship will conclude with a studio pottery show and sale, where each intern will present 8–10 finished works developed during the program—an opportunity to share their voice with the wider community and experience their work in a professional setting.
College & Portfolio Development Benefits
Create a cohesive, concept-driven portfolio aligned with expectations for competitive college art programs
Receive professional-quality photographs of finished work, ready for submission to applications and portfolios
Gain experience in writing and speaking about your work, supporting artist statements and interviews
Develop discipline, consistency, and conceptual depth—qualities highly valued in admissions review
Receive mentor feedback that can help shape portfolio direction and future artistic goals
This program is best suited for artists who are self-motivated, open to feedback, and eager to engage deeply with both their own practice and the shared life of the studio.
