First Friday Art Walk: Community Raku Firing

  • Rogue Valley Pottery Supply 300 East Hersey Street Ashland, OR, 97520 United States (map)

Everyone is welcome to join us for our community raku firing! Whether you'd like to participate with your own work or simply watch the process, it's a great opportunity to experience the excitement of raku and connect with fellow ceramic artists.

If you plan to fire work, please register in advance. A $20 deposit is required to reserve your space in the firing.

Firing Fees

Your $20 deposit covers the first piece. Additional firing fees are calculated at $0.10 per cubic inch of work. Final costs will be determined when you arrive, and any remaining balance is due before we begin loading the raku kilns.

What to Expect

You don't need to stay for the entire event, but you must be present if you'd like to participate in the post-firing process or request specialty finishes.

After each piece is removed from the kiln, it is placed into reduction containers filled with sawdust and newspaper to create raku's distinctive surface effects. If you'd like to try specialty techniques such as horsehair decoration or water quenching, you'll need to be present to assist with the process.

For safety, participants do not assist with loading or operating the raku kiln. Once pieces have been removed from the kiln, you'll have the opportunity to participate in the reduction process and watch your work transform.

A wash station will be available to clean soot from your finished pieces before you take them home.

If you leave your work behind, we'll notify you when it's ready for pickup.
